Taking part in Dutch Design Week 2024 and helping create the Temple of Peace was an unforgettable experience. As a Syrian, peace is something my country deeply needs, so being part of a project built around unity and hope meant a great deal to me.

Together with my colleague Samira, I designed a peace flag. Creating it gave me a profound sense of belonging. The flag felt like a country of our own: a place where peace is a right for everyone, regardless of their background.

I became so attached to our flag that I decided to make a second version to hang in my home. It reminds me of the values I believe in and of the joy and hope I felt while creating it.

The Temple of Peace showed me how design can bring people together and give form to something we all need: a place where everyone belongs.
