We began by sharing the moments and places where we feel most at peace. We both thought of our families: spending the day together, talking, laughing and, above all, sharing meals.

Hannah remembered watching her father bake and helping her mother cook. She often sat with her sister in the kitchen, cutting vegetables or adding flour while they talked about whatever was on their minds.

Sevgi described how everyone in her family spent the day working, studying or following their own activities. In the evening, they came home and gathered around the table to eat together.

That is why our flag is about sharing food and stories. We chose the colours of a happy day: a blue sky, a large yellow table like the sun, and pink dots representing the people gathered around it.

Sometimes peace is simply having a table to return to - and people waiting there for you.
